Let’s make it real
It is going to take consistency and discipline to develop your prayer life together as husband and wife. This week is the best time to start. As was shared in the lesson, don’t just talk about it, just DO IT!
If you have never prayed together before, it may be like learning to ride a bicycle; trying to do two things at the same time. Be patient with yourselves and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you into one activity together.
Pick a time daily to pray together. At first, don’t be concerned about how much time you spend praying, only that you do it together.
Keep a record of what you’ve prayed about. The enemy knows the power in what you are doing and he’s going to do everything he can to discourage and delay your praying. Don’t give up – make an appointment daily and discipline yourselves to keep it.
Remember to spend quality time praying in the spirit together. This knits you as one and edifies your one-flesh life.
When praying in your native language, be sure to pray the Word of God for the people and situations for which you are praying. If you are having difficulty getting started, remember it takes more maturity to pray in your native language together, so start by praying in the spirit. Take time during your prayer time together to share with each other what God is saying to you individually. Let this be a special time of communication with God and each other.
If you already have a prayer time together, use this as a time to allow the Lord to deepen and strengthen it.
If you do not already have a prayer journal, you might consider using the following one.
There is a section to record what you pray for each day and what the Lord says when He speaks to you.
Following that is a section to record scriptures you are praying. There is also a section to record any special instructions or insights that you received while praying – any “new light” shed on those things for which you are praying.
Finally, there is a section in which to record the answers you receive to prayer. We have included two pages here. If you like this format, make copies of a page and continue on with it. You may prefer to use another one or make up one of your own – just use some consistent way to keep a journal of your prayer time together.

Have you received the Baptism or the Infilling of the Holy Spirit? If not, there’s no better time than the present to receive all that God has for you. If you want to be baptized by Jesus in the Holy Spirit, pray the following prayer.
“Lord Jesus, I want all that You have for me. I want to surrender all to You. Please baptize me in the Holy Spirit right now. I receive it. Thank you.”
With both of you baptized in the Holy Spirit, you can pray with your understanding in your native language and in the spirit in tongues. Sometimes we don’t know how to pray or what we should say “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express” [Romans 8:26 NIV].
It is at times such as these that we need to pray in the spirit for He knows how to pray a perfect prayer, always in the will of God. Begin praying both ways in your daily prayer time together. Remember that praying in the spirit also edifies [1 Corinthians 14:4].
If you received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit this week, do the same as you did when you were born again. Write the date below and sign your name. It is established for all eternity!
